Star Trek Adventures is a so-called Pen & Paper RPG which was released by Modiphius in August 2017. It has the award-winning 2D20 rulesystem which is easily understandable. Especially for experienced s who know other systems, f.e. Dungeons & Dragons], and new players is it a quite user-friendly system.

Since 2024 there is a Secound Edition of the game available.

What is Star Trek Adventures[1]?[edit | edit source]

It is a so-called Role-Playing Game or RPG for short, which is a game where Players dive deeply into the role of a character and resemble their ability to solve problems or to fight them (if needed). It has the purpose to make the most of fun a game could ever do and hopefully you all want now to dive into the role of a Starfleet officer, Klingon warrior, Romulan soldier, or whatever you and your group wants. There are some strict rules but the rest can be done as your imagination wants. Have fun, fun fun!!!

What you will need[2][edit | edit source]

Players[edit | edit source]

There are exactly two player types:

  • Gamemaster (the D&D equivalent is the Dungeon Master). He/she is a godlike beeing which knows everything about the game and plays the so-called NPCs and NPC ships or vehicles. He knows every rules, all starships, NPCs and locations important to the session and/or beyond that. His most important role is to make shure, that all players have their fun, but all of that with fair gameplay!
--> see Gamemastering for more information.

Dice[edit | edit source]

There are two types of dice:

  1. d20 for attempting Tasks. Two d20s per player in the Player group and more then that for the Gamemaster will be needed. A minimum of two is needed.
  2. d6 or Challenge Dice for determine the effectiveness of their attempts. Three to six Challenge Dice per player in the Player group and more then that for the Gamemaster will be needed. In the wiki and the official rule books and websites they are abbreviated with the Template:ChallengeDiceSFDelta for Starfleet and Template:ChallengeDiceKEDelta for the Klingon Empire.

You can share between Players and the Gamemaster if dice are scare. Or if you don't have access to a replicator the necessary dice can be bought via Cyrano Jones, the intergalactic trader of Modiphius. He has special colored d20s and Challenge Dice, as well as a white assortment of accessories, sourcebooks and supplements. You can order direct online or with credit card or Spican flame gems, or ask at your local gaming store.[2]

Paper and Pencils[edit | edit source]

You will need some sort medium for traking your actions, attemps and also failures, making maps or keeping general notes. Therefore you can use paper and pencils or you could use more modern like tablets, smartphones, computers and PADDs.

Tokens, Beads or Chips[edit | edit source]

The players will need six counters to track Momentum points, while the Gamemaster will need a dozen more for the Threat pool.

--> for more information see Momentum and Threat.

What else?[edit | edit source]

Basic training[edit | edit source]

With one rule book (or at least this wiki), dice, chracters (and a starship) and some Players you are ready to begin the mission. With a basic example of play you will be introduced to the gameplay and how it feels and flows. This will provide you enough for your first game or games and afterwards the Gamemaster can add more and more rules that apply to the basement of rules we already have in the example.

A brief overview of the Star Trek universe[edit | edit source]

The known galaxy[edit | edit source]

The Milky Way is the home galaxy from us, the members of the United Earth or/and the United Federations of Planets or Klingon Empire, and it spans 100,000 light years (ly) in diameter. It's center is called the Galactic Core and is surrounded by the Great Barrier, which spans 15,000 lys in diameter. Another barrier that surrounds the outer rim of the glaxy is the Galactic Barrier. Only a few known vessels survived the entering of both barriers, one of them is the legendary U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701.

The Galaxy is seperated into four quadrants, the Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta Quadrant. The Sol system, our Star system, is located on the border of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant. The Klingon Empire and the Romulan Star Empire, the Federation's biggest adversaries in from the late 22nd century until the late 24th century, are both located in the Beta Quadrant.

Adventures aboard the Artus[edit | edit source]

T'Shal's and M'Urli's Adventures[edit | edit source]
